Passion for the Bees

The small, striped arthropods we know as “bees” have been a large part of my life since childhood. My interest piqued on my grandfather’s farm where our family’s hive was stored and maintained. Wild clover and dandelion were abundant throughout the yard in which I was raised, where barefoot we’d dodge the busy bees on the way to our neighboring orchards. The local fruits would flourish from the constant attention of our little flying friends; I am grateful to have grown up totally immersed in the impact our tireless pollinators have in everyday life.

Today my connection to the 35 million year-old species strengthens with the ancient art of Yoga, Pranayama and meditation. It was with the breathing exercise Bhramari where I fell into harmony with the natural world, experiencing a profound transcendental reality while mimicking the sound and vibration of the bee.

It is with great joy and enthusiasm that I contribute to Kristen’s vision, Bee Connection. I am honored and proud to help conserve the honey bee and to unite with likeminded individuals. We will work to protect honey bees and other pollinating organisms from harmful pesticides with the introduction of pollinator gardens and a myriad of educational resources.

“No creature has provided man with so much wholesome food as the honey bee.” Hilda Ransome
